Our History

Over 100 years of Golf at Thornton
Thornton Golf Club was inaugurated on 17 June 1921. In its formative years, golf was played on a site at Mid Strathore Farm, west of the village, before the club moved to its present location in 1925.
The golf course occupies a 91-acre site that was formerly part of the Balgonie Estate. It is enclosed by water on three sides, lying between the River Ore along the southern and eastern perimeters and the Lochty Burn along the northern boundary. The confluence of these two watercourses lies just a “wedge shot” to the northeast of the course, beyond the 13th green.
